Some of my friends who are keeping pregnancy blogs post weekly updates, so I'm going to post one today. Usually, people also post a belly picture, but I have to admit, I'm not ready to do that because basically all I have going on is "chub" ha!
How far along? 12w2d
Weight gain/loss: No weight change
Maternity clothes? Not really. I have one pair of maternity yoga pants that I pretty much live in at home, though.
Stretch marks? Nah, way too early for that. I hope they will miraculously stay away!
Sleep? I sleep pretty well, but I wake up at least 4 or 5 times to pee.
Best moment this week? Seeing baby during a 3D ultrasound.
Food cravings: Random and it changes regularly, but mostly salty carbs like pasta and french fries.
Gender: Not sure yet. The doctor's early guess at the most recent ultrasound appointment is girl.
Belly button in or out? In
Movement? Nope, too early.
What I miss? Having energy at night to do things like work out!
What I'm looking forward to: Hopefully getting over the 1st trimester "yuckies" very soon.
Milestones: Seeing baby during the 3D ultrasound and "coming out" on Facebook.

Introducing Baby (Girl?) Lyle!
Brad and I went to our appointment today for fibroid monitoring and, of course, to see how baby is doing. As always, I was pretty nervous going in. It's hard not to imagine the worst, even when you have no reason to think that way.
This was our first time going to the group practice, which is actually in the hospital where I will be delivering the baby. The doctor I mainly go to, who is a part of this group, has her own private office off hospital property.
I got to meet one of the other doctors for the first time, and he was very laid back and easy to talk to, even though his very deep voice caught me off guard. He sounds a little like Darth Vader. :)
First, let's talk about the fibroid. It has grown. Last week, it was 5.2 cm. Today it was 7.7 cm. It is an anterior fibroid, and the doctor is satisfied that with the direction it is taking, it will not interfere with my pregnancy or delivery at all. As a precaution, we will continue to monitor it. My next planned ultrasound will be around 21 weeks, and then I will have subequent ultrasounds at 28w, 32w, and finally 36w.
The good news is that I am no longer in pain! Let's hope it stays that way.
Ok, on to the fun stuff. We got a great look at baby! The u/s tech and doctor got some great pictures, and he even insists that he can already tell the sex of the baby. Now, don't run out and buy me anything gender specific yet because I am not sold, but doctor insists that this little munchkin is all sugar and spice and everything nice! When I challenged him on this, telling him that I knew it was too early to know for sure, he got a little defensive, citing all of his credentials when it comes to being a "sonography geek", and I guess to prove himself, he switched over to the 3D ultrasound. Score!!
We were very excited to see everything from the inside out, including the 4 chambers of the heart, the stomach, the brain, the spine, all the fingers and toes, and lots over overall cuteness. I'm pretty sure I can already tell that this baby is going to look just like his or her Daddy. ;)
One thing that we were very surprised to learn is that it appears we had a vanishing twin. The doctor could see the remnants of a second sac, as well as some things in the sac that indicate we had a very early vanished twin. I'm not sure what to think of that or how to feel, but I am very, very thankful for our one healthy baby.
Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.
First, the 2D profile picture:
Then, the 3D profile picture. Baby says "hello"!
And finally, a good Halloween shot. Very creepy skeletor baby is waving at you!

What a pain in the ute
So, apparently I have not only a baby, but also a fibroid growing in my uterus right now. Can I just say, "OWWIE!"
I'd been having what I *thought* might be a lot of lower abdominal achiness, as well as some lower back, hip and leg pain that has been making it difficult to sit, stand, walk, lay down, or sleep. After 2 days, I gave in and called my doctor. She had me go in for an abdominal exam. During said exam, she commented that considering how far along I am, my uterus was bigger and higher up than she would expect. She told me that either she "missed a baby" when she did my first ultrasound OR I had a fibroid growing in there. I don't know which one I was hoping for, but I got Door #2.
The good news is that in utero fibroids are fairly common in pregnant women, and they don't often cause complications. If the fibroid grows to be too large, it could cause the baby to be in breech position or it could cause premature labor.
I have another appointment next Wednesday for an ultrasound to monitor the fibroid. The best case scenario would reveal that the fibroid is not growing.
Now, on to the really good stuff. Baby is perfectly happy and healthy and is growing right on target. His/her heartbeat is beating strong, and s/he even waved for the camera today. ::Swoon:: The doctor says that baby is perfectly comfortable in his/her apartment, but that it is the "neighbor upstairs" that is causing me grief.
I'd like to evict this unruly little boarder, but for now, all I can do is hope that it stays put and grows no more.
I will update next week, hopefully with a nice, clear ultrasound picture!

"Came but for friendship, and took away love."
7 years ago today, I walked down the aisle of West Hills Presbyterian Church with my father to Canon in D playing from the church organ. Brad was waiting at the front of the church with his brother, Bill, the minister who would marry us. It's one of my favorite memories, and I will never forget that moment.
It's cliche, but it's true, that it was the happiest day of my life up to that point. The smile that was glued on my face all day long was not a fake smile for the camera; I was genuinely that happy.
I did not have the typical wedding jitters that some people talk about. I felt as calm and as cool as any bride could possibly be on her wedding day. Well, as cool as you can be when it's 90-some degrees and humid outside. There's not been a single moment in the past 7 years when I have questioned or doubted the vows I took on my wedding day.
Our wedding invitations read, "Came but for friendship, and took away love," and that pretty much sums up our marriage, I think. Every day I feel blessed to be married to my best friend, who I just happen to be madly in love with.
I've attached some really poor quality pictures of the happiest day of my life. I'm embarrassed to say that my wedding album isn't much to see at all. I don't have any of these pictures on my computer, so what you're looking at are cell phone shots of photos from a half-completed wedding album. I smile to myself when people who are planning their wedding insist on hiring the fanciest and most expensive photographer they can find because they think that somehow it's those photos that capture and keep the memories of the day. I actually can not remember the last time I pulled out my dusty box of wedding photos, but there's not a moment of that day that isn't etched into my memory as clearly as though it was yesterday.
The last picture is one of us taken in the same room in the same church where I got ready for our wedding 5 years and 1 week later, on Brad's sister's wedding day. We loved standing in her wedding, not only because we love her and wanted to be a part of her special day, but also because it brought back some wonderful memories for us.
Happy Anniversary to my husband and my best friend. I know we have many, many more happy anniversaries ahead of us.

Interview Questions- for Ms. Sulfa
My friend, "Sulfa", has posted some interview questions on her blog that she's challenged her readers to answer, so here goes nothing.
1. Are you an organ donor? Why or why not?
I am not. I don't have a good reason as to why I'm not; I'm just not. Brad and I have never discussed it. I'm sure that now that we have a baby on the way, our priorities are going to shift, and this discussion may have to be approached sometime in the near future.
2. What's your favorite can't-live-without makeup item?
Without a doubt, it is eyeliner. Without it, I think I look tired.
3. Do you consider yourself religious, spiritual, or neither? Elaborate if you care to.
I am a Christian. My faith is a very personal thing, and I am private about it, although I am happy to talk about it with anyone who wants to. :)
4. How much would "they" have to pay you to break the pinky on your non-dominant hand?
You know, my first instinct is to say some huge and ridiculous number, like $1,000,000, but the more I think about it, the more I feel like I would do it for maybe $5,000 or $10,000. Enough to pay off a substantial bill.
So, there you go. There are my answers to Sulfa's "must know" questions. If you get a chance, check out her blog. In her own words, her blog is about "catharsis, humor, advocacy, sisterhood, haiku." It is one of my absolutely, positively favorite blogs to read, and it is written by one of my absolutely, positively favorite people.
